Colouring books

Why colouring books

I chose colouring books as my next main project as I find in the art word they are over looked. Often they are dismissed and not put the the categories of art. I find that colouring books have a lot of positive impact. If children are going to be colouring I feel is a great opportunity for learning. Nothing too intense but core ideas that will serve them going forward. Such as using the Irish language or taking a aspect of the world that hey find scary and breaking it down, such as bugs. Learning for kids can be fun and seamless if done correctly. With my experience with helping to raise my two younger siblings I feel as though I can integrate the things I did to explain the world to them in a colouring book format.

Bake with me

Bake with me is the project I have made the most progress on , it is a half cookbook and half colouring book. It is going to be a mix and healthy and unhealthy recipes to encourage a rounded view on food and treats. The recipes in the book will be my own as I have enjoyed creating recipes for the past few years. I feel as though this project will pull together two of my major interests, cooking and art, going me a reason to focus on both in a more serious way. The recipes will be split into two sections one side with my recipes and the other blank with the ability to fill one in. This is to give families the opportunity to add personal or cultural recipes.

Ainmhithe

Ainmhithe is a colouring book that is only filled with animals native to Ireland. It will also have the Irish names on one page and the animal on the other. This is to create a natural learning environment to use the Irish language. It is important for everyone to know the animals native to the country they are so we can all act towards preservation of our native species. Understanding of conservation is important to start young when kids are most interested in animals.

Best bugs

Best bugs is a colouring book focused on explaining the purpose of bugs to children. Children often have a fear of bugs. This can stem from a lack of understanding of why bugs look and act the way they do. Best bugs would aim to relive some of these axinites. The colouring pages would be kept semi realistic in order to keep the child’s understanding of the bug close to the real counters part. Bugs are an important part of our ecosystem without which we should not have one. Education is so important for the future of conservation.
